The Bay
Black lava beach

Carriçal Bay consists of a black lava beach and an acacia forest that stretches into the agricultural valley behind it.

Thanks to the bay’s sheltered location, the sea is as calm as a lake all year round and ideal for swimming, snorkelling and fishing.

The water temperature ranges from 24 to 27 degrees.

Experience nature at its best

Dolphins are often seen swimming just off the bay, and with a bit of luck you might even spot some whales.

In summer, you can watch turtles laying their eggs on the sandy beach, and in autumn you can watch the baby turtles hatch and make their way into the sea.

To the west and east along the coast, you’ll find volcanoes, colourful rock formations, several secluded bays with black or white sand and caves, as well as a freshwater spring.
