Activities
Swimming in the bay of Carriçal at water temperatures between 22 and 27 degrees is beautiful and completely safe as long as you don’t swim out to sea (there are currents there). Our steel ladder allows you to get into and out of the water safely and comfortably all year round.
Snorkelling all year round, please bring your own snorkel. everal turtles live in the bay, which you can find quite quickly while snorkelling.
Fishing – You can fish very well from the shore. Sea fishing, bottom fishing or trolling from a hired boat with Cabeça, our experienced fisherman.
Boat trips – Hire a boat with Cabeça, e.g. west to Preguiça or to Porto Lapa, the first harbour in Cape Verde. You will see flying fish, with a bit of luck dolphins, turtles, a whale or shark.
Day hikes – along the coast in a westerly or easterly direction, to the nearby volcanoes, to the Carriçal spring, to the ‘Ponta do Agua’ cave, where fresh water flows into the sea all year round, to ‘Praia Azul’, where it looks like the Caribbean, or to Juncalinho. If you don’t want to set off on your own, take one of the guides in Carriçal.
Nature watching from the terraces of the houses:
Turtles (several live directly in the bay, which can be easily observed from the terrace of Casa Tartaruga). Dolphins (all year round), whales (June to August), whale sharks, manta rays, stargazing.
On the beach: turtles laying eggs (June to August), hatching (September to November) with Sidney the turtle mentor who will be happy to show you the turtles.
The Ponta Calma peninsula is also ideal for sunbathing, reading, writing, painting, meditating, relaxing… due to its great location with plenty of privacy.
